This paper describes how the SAP NetWeaver® platform and its components help IT organizations align with their enterprise business requirements in the area of security. It demonstrates how the platform enables companies to leverage their existing assets to maintain an appropriate level of security in the face of the growing challenges posed by more open and flexible systems. This level of security can be achieved via an incremental rollout strategy based on user- and process-oriented security components and capabilities. The result: a secure, service-oriented architecture that lets the enterprise adapt to continuous change while at the same time containing costs. This paper shows how components of the SAP NetWeaver open-technology platform can help IT organizations put in place an incremental approach to security that prepares the enterprise infrastructure for a services-oriented future, where users and business processes grow in numbers and in diversity. This approach optimizes protection with minimal impact on productivity - even for the demanding collaborative and modular business processes companies will face in the future.

Email Archiving has become a key issue for many corporate decision makers. A driving factor for this is that many industries are impacted by federal regulations which require that email communications are archived and preserved for a statutory period of time. E-mail archiving regulations primarily pertain to publicly traded companies, financial institutions, healthcare facilities, and government agencies. This document discusses the reasons e-mail archiving is necessary, the benefits of archiving messages, the different options available for archiving, and how administrators can determine which option is best for a given company.

Many organizations lack the tools necessary to effectively manage the Java software development lifecycle properly. They are often unable to overcome the complex challenges associated with this type of development, limiting their ability to eliminate discrepancies between environments and manage conflicts between multiple developers. This white paper measures the benefits associated with a variety of Eclipse-based Java IDEs.

More than 80% of all data maintained by organizations has a location component. Location intelligence offers value to an organization, using economics, demographics and physical geography to detect patterns, risks and opportunities often difficult to see in a basic spreadsheet analysis. Yet many organizations still have not embraced this technology, limiting their ability to effectively manage location-based data. This white paper details the benefits associated with location intelligence.

Organizations often lack an effective method for packaging, deploying, monitoring and controlling enterprise Java applications in virtual data centers. They are then limited in their ability to achieve flexible, dynamic performance from their Java applications for enhanced operational response times, availability and efficiency. This white paper explores methods for enhancing centralized governance and control over Java applications.

Organizations often fail to realize the pivotal role static source code analysis plays in enhancing software quality and security. Without this level of code analysis, critical vulnerabilities can be exploited after release and coding mistakes can cause inventory turnaround, resulting in serious expenses. This white paper details the benefits associated with automated source code analysis, highlighting how it can be used to identify software errors before shipment

The regulations listed above were designed to protect customers and the companies that serve them. Furthermore, compliance is required for doing business in today's litigious environment. The easiest route to compliance is by protecting your company's network and wireless devices through data encryption, user authentication and user-rights validation. Enacting best practices for wireless network, device and application security not only will ensure that your company complies with regulations, but will protect your network as well.

Protecting confidential data is nothing new to IT managers who they have been responsible for restricting access to corporate data and maintaining its physical security since the early days of computing. But in the last couple of years, it has taken on a whole new dimension-in large part due to the sheer volume of confidential data that is generated and moved around organizations today, the proliferation and tightening of corporate and federal regulations governing the protection of this type of data and the increasing number and visibility of data breaches often involving household name companies. Why use tape encryption? Encrypting in the tape drive hardware minimizes the performance overhead of the encryption process. By nature, hardware-based encryption is less compute-intensive than software-based approaches. Software-based approaches can put a burden on participating servers and can also make compression more difficult. Drive-level encryption is also more efficient than network-based encryption appliances from a processing standpoint. All of the encrypting is done offline, after data has been ingested by the tape drive. It is not done in-line in the network - potentially causing a traffic bottleneck in the network and delaying what ESG refers to as the time to DR process. This refers to the length of time it takes to get a copy of the data encrypted and off-site for DR purposes.

This white paper discusses a new approach to Network Access Control that overcomes both of these shortcomings of conventional NAC products. Mobile NAC, from Fiberlink Communications, is the first Network Access Control technology designed specifically for mobile and remote workforces. This includes: "road warriors" (executives, salespeople, consultants and other frequent travelers), "day extenders" (officebased employees who do some of their work at home or on the road), home workers, telecommuters and remote office workers. Mobile NAC is not a separate product, but rather an implementation of specific features of the proven Extend360 Mobility Platform. For several years the Extend360 Mobility Platform performed many of the main functions of a NAC product, including endpoint assessment, quarantine, and remediation. Enhancements introduced in early 2007 elevate this platform to a full NAC solution for mobile workers.
