Senate Hearing on IT Investments

On Tuesday, June 11, the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs held a Hearing entitled "Reducing Duplication and Improving Outcomes in Federal Information Technology."  Testimony was given from CIOs at Commerce, HHS, as well as Fed CIO Steven VanRoekel and David Powner, GAO.  Please see here for details on the full hearing.

Data Center and the Cloud Field Hearing

On Tuesday, May 14, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee's Subcommittee on Government Operations called a Field Hearing entitled "Data Centers on the Cloud: Is the Government Optimizing New Information Technologies Opportunities to Save Taxpayers Money?"  Steve O'Keeffe testified before the committee, on behalf of the MeriTalk community.  Please see here for details on the full hearing.
 

Despite Progress Feds Challenged with Cost Savings

The Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative (FDCCI) placed data center consolidation at the forefront of Federal agency technology initiatives. With a 2015 deadline, agencies are scrambling to meet the goal of closing 1,200 data centers.  A new study, "The FDCCI Big Squeeze," reveals that Federal agencies are realizing the benefits of data center consolidation, but struggle to produce quantifiable numbers to demonstrate cost savings.  Download the study to learn more.

The 12th MeriTalk Data Center Exchange Meeting addressed automating processes and procedures in the data center. The meeting featured speaker Dr. Michael Valivullah, Chief Technology Officer, National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Second Annual Data Center Brainstorm

On March 7, 2013 MeriTalk's Data Center Exchange held the second annual 2013 Data Center Brainstorm at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. The program brought together savvy Federal data center movers and shakers to share best practices, collaborate on challenges, and discuss what is needed for effective consolidation.  At the Brainstorm, MeriTalk announced the winner of the 2013 Optimize Data Center Awards.
