Matthew T. Cornelius, Senior Professional Staff for the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (Majority Staff – Chairman Gary C. Peters) Matthew serves as a Senior Professional Staff Member for Chairman Gary C. Peters on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC). In that role, he handles a wide array of government operations, budget, appropriations, and oversight issues, including Federal management and program implementation, regulatory reform, transparency and accountability, and government spending and performance.
Prior to his role in Congress, he served as the Executive Director of the Alliance for Digital Innovation (ADI) – a coalition of customer-focused commercial companies helping to shape government IT modernization efforts through advocacy and thought leadership. ADI focused on driving government’s adoption of innovative technology to empower the mission and ensuring that Federal agencies could more effectively buy and use modern commercial capabilities to deliver the modern, secure, effective digital experience citizens deserve.
Prior to ADI, Matthew was a Senior Advisor for Technology and Cybersecurity Policy at the White House’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB). In that role, he was primarily responsible for leading numerous government-wide IT modernization and cybersecurity initiatives, including the IT Modernization Cross Agency Priority Goal and the establishment of the Technology Modernization Fund. Before OMB, Matthew served as the Senior Advisor for Cybersecurity to the Administrator of the General Services Administration and he began his Federal career as a Policy Advisor at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
