Joseph Sharon

Mr. Joseph Sharon is the Technical Director/Program Manager of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Chief Information Officer (OCIO) within the Information Technology Services and Operations (ITSO), where he leads the implementation and execution of DHS Cybersecurity Continuous Diagnostic and Mitigation (CDM) for several DHS customers across the eleven Components: MGMT/HQ; CBP; ICE; USCIS; FEMA; TSA; S&T; OIG; FLETC; USSS, CISA. He has used his creativity, complex systems knowledge, and ever-increasing responsibility experiences to successfully exceed all expectations of his leadership during his 26+ years of Federal IT Program Management, cybersecurity, and global implementation of enterprise cloud solutions, including several positions of increasing levels of responsibility reporting directly to CIO, CTO, and CISO.
Mr. Sharon has worked in a wide variety of C-Level IT positions throughout his career, but has maintained a focus on national programs and department-wide IT initiatives. Prior to his current position he also served as the U.S. Department of State, Diplomatic Security Unit Chief, where he was responsible for implementing a Biometric Identity Management solution to accurately identify individuals at U.S. Embassies high-threat middle east regions to determine risk posture. He also served as Deputy Branch Chief IT Policy and Planning Initiatives in the Capital Planning and Architecture Division as the Deputy Branch Chief for the State Department, where he implemented cyber security, application management, ISO9001 Quality Management, and critical infrastructure policies, plus successfully modernized Diplomatic Security Bureau’s network connections and Protocol Switching at 28 locations nationwide.
In addition to DHS, his Federal experience includes: the Army Reserves Signal Command Theater, as a Cyber Protection Team/Projects Lead, Chief of Army Reserves Congressional Legislative Liaison, and US Property Fiscal Office, CIO. His private industry experience, working in business development, also provides a unique perspective and appreciation for the issues that are important to both the public and private sectors. In addition to his civilian career, Mr. Sharon started his public service career as a U. S. Army Guard/Reservist and is a retired officer in the U.S. Army Reserves, having successfully held multiple leadership positions from Company through Joint Task Force/Theater level organizations and received several high performance awards.
Mr. Sharon holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) and Technology Management and Bachelor’s Degrees in Finance/Economics/Accounting. He is a U.S. Department of State, Diplomatic Security CTO Team Honor Awardee, and Individual Meritorious Honors Awardee.
