Sheena Burrell has been appointed the new Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), she announced on her Linked In page.
Burrell stepped in as CIO and executive for information services following Swarnali Halder’s departure at the end of July after nearly a decade of service in the department.
She began her career at NARA in 2019 as the associate CIO for Business and Investment Management. In April 2020, she was appointed deputy CIO (DCIO) and played an instrumental role in leading NARA Information Technology (IT) programs and projects by being accountable for four IT divisions.
As the DCIO, she helped create the agency’s IT Strategic Plan, worked on updating NARA’s IT governance processes, and collaborated to bring technological advances to NARA.
Before joining NARA, Burrell worked for NASA, where she served as an IT Business Manager. And before that for the Social Security Administration, where she served in several IT positions.
