The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee has scheduled a hearing for Feb. 9 at 9:15 a.m. EST on President Biden’s nomination of Neera Tanden to become Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

OMB is a crucial component in the White House’s execution of policy initiatives including budget development, oversight of Federal agency performance, and IT-related policies.

It remains unclear whether the Senate Homeland Security hearing will be the only nomination hearing that Tanden faces. The nomination of former OMB chief Mick Mulvaney drew hearings from both Senate Homeland Security, and the Senate Budget Committee.

Subject to Senate approval, Tanden would become the first woman of color and the first South-Asian American to lead OMB. Tanden president of the Center for American Progress – a Washington D.C.-based think tank – and has had roles in the presidential campaigns of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Before heading Center for American Progress, Tanden was a senior adviser for health reform at the Department of Health and Human Services in connection with developing policies and provisions for the Affordable Care Act.
