The Treasury Department’s Bureau of Engraving and Printing put out a request for information yesterday seeking information on technology or materials with hidden machine-readable counterfeit deterrent capabilities for future currency. The department is seeking hidden machine-readable technology that is difficult to discover, even by a subject matter expert; difficult to elucidate the functionality or detection mechanism; is readable by a standalone detection system; and can’t be duplicated. The department would also like the service to be unavailable commercially. The response date is set for Jan. 27, 2020.
