Cameron Bahar

Cameron Bahar is the Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Veritas, where he leads the technical vision and strategy for the company. With more than 17 years’ experience, Cameron has held CTO positions at several leading technology companies, including Hitachi Data Systems, Teradata and ParaScale.
At the start of his career, Cameron was a pioneer in distributed operating systems, single-system image clustering, and distributed file systems. From there, he led the design, deployment, and operation of Scale8s distributed Internet storage service that provided the world’s first public cloud storage for digital content owners; developed system software for disk volume management, data security, and utility data center management; and, developed extensions to UNIX to allow the massive parallel processing required by the Teradata database.
Cameron has also been responsible for the product architecture, strategy, and technology direction of advanced storage and cloud computing platforms, as well as running a U.S. Research & Development Storage Lab focused on innovation and next-generation storage and cloud computing technologies. As the CTO and Chief Strategist at Hitachi Data Systems, Cameron led the technology direction and strategy on scale-out storage platforms, distributed file systems and Big Data analytics, as well as contributed to the overall file and cloud storage product strategy.
Prior to Hitachi Data Systems, Cameron founded ParaScale, where he served as its CTO and VP Engineering until it was acquired by HDS in August 2010. At ParaScale, Cameron developed and released the first software-defined scale-out converged compute/storage platform creating the category “Private Cloud Storage” and allowing Big Data workloads such as Hadoop and others to run directly inside a distributed shared-nothing storage platform.
Cameron holds a Bachelor of Science, first in class, and a Masters of Science with honors, in Electrical Engineering from the University of California Irvine. He also holds several patents in scalable distributed storage systems, virtual file systems, and high availability systems.
