Michael R. McFarren
MITRE
Mr. McFarren is a Senior Principal enterprise architect at The MITRE Corporation. He is current supporting Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA). In this assignment, he is mentoring VA to use enterprise architecture and enterprise analysis techniques to enhance veteran experiences and make VA a more effective Department in managing its assets and resources. In previous assignments he provided technical, policy, and architecting advice to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Defense Chief Information Officers (CIO). Mr. McFarren also advised the Deputy Chief Management Office of the US Air Force (AF) on Enterprise Architecting and lead the development of the Air Force Business Enterprise Architecture for the AF CIO.
Prior to joining MITRE, Mr. McFarren was an EDS “Top Gun” Engineer; working on projects in excess of $100M. At EDS he served as a technical advisor to Health Net, US Postal Service, US State Department, and Department of the Navy.
Mr. McFarren received his commission in the US Air Force in 1977 and held many leadership positions. His AF career was in two parts: missile operations and command and control (C2) research.
Mr. McFarren holds a B.S. in chemistry education from Purdue University, an M.B.A. from the University of North Dakota, an M.S. in operations research, Strategic and Tactical Sciences with Certification in Command and Control from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and all but dissertation for a Ph.D. in Information Technology at George Mason University. In his leisure time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, painting, and reading.
