Scott Engelson

National Nuclear Security Administration

Scott Engelson is the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of one of the most critical government organizations, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).

Scott has protected our Nation’s most vital secrets through cyber risk management but also through enterprise-scale cyber operations. Scott led NNSA through significant innovations in cybersecurity including the creation of an enterprise security operations centers (SOC) to protect NNSA information. The enterprise SOC provides cybersecurity incident management and response, forensic analysis, and other critical security operations for NNSA. Scott now leads the deployment of enterprise tools to hundreds of thousands of systems that will improve cybersecurity as a common capability for NNSA.

Scott leads innovation in the information assurance policy area too. He led the establishment of one of the first non-DoD certified cybersecurity service provider capabilities that allows NNSA to manage security of the Department of Energy secret network. Recognizing that innovation requires constant focus, Scott helped lead an independent enterprise cybersecurity assessment this year that informed the top investment areas he needs to make to remain at the forward edge of capabilities in government and industry. Scott has expertly led his team to already develop implementation plans to address many of the issues identified in the analysis but more importantly that CISOs across the government are facing.
