The Defense Department (DoD) has awarded the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) a contract that could be worth up to $10.6 billion from the U.S. Navy to perform research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) work.
The lab won a $4.4 billion cost-plus-fixed-fee, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract for RDT&E programs throughout the DoD in core competency areas such as strategic systems test and evaluation; space science and engineering; information technology, simulation, modeling, and operations analysis; and mission-related RDT&E, according to the DoD contract award announcement.
However, if all options are exercised, the cumulative value of the IDIQ contract would be $10.6 billion, DoD said. RDT&E work is slated to be completed by August 2027 under the contract’s base award. But if all options are exercised, it will continue through August 2032.
“Fiscal 2022 research, development, test and evaluation (Navy) funds in the amount of $6,803,376 will be obligated at time of award and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year,” the announcement says.
Under the contract, APL will support department programs in various competency areas such as space science and engineering, submarine security and survivability, and combat systems and guided missiles.
