The Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) Office of Inspector General (IG) is searching for an online tool to help it with background information research during investigations.

The agency’s watchdog office is seeking “a web-based online search and retrieval service that provides vital public and private information on individuals and businesses,” according to a request for information (RFI) posted on SAM.gov on Wednesday.

The IG said it needs the background information to pursue final prosecutorial outcomes. Therefore, possible online search platforms must allow the IG to conduct investigative, medical sanctions, and debarment research.

During an investigation, the agency must have a handle on reams of data before physical interactions begin, and the RFI flags the need for data topics including concealed weapons permits, criminal actions, civil liens, civil judgments, and even bankruptcies.

“The procurement of the investigative service is vital to the safety of our staff … an investigative service provides this and much more invaluable, and consolidated information, whereby ensuring our staff is fully aware of any situation they may find themselves in,” the notice states.

The IG said it expects to award a firm-fixed-price contract for a base period of 12 months and with an additional four 12-month options. The request seeks industry comments to help OPM’s IG locate possible platforms with the ability to satisfy its requirement. Responses are due by October 24.
