Survey: Americans Most Wary of Social Media Election Impact

Cybersecurity firm Morphisec said that 63 percent of 1,000 Americans that it surveyed in late October regarded the threat of “adversaries propagating misinformation on social networks” as a “more significant threat” to the U.S. midterm elections than possible cyber attacks against voting infrastructure. The survey also found that about 20 percent of respondents were “most fearful” of a state-sponsored cyber attack against election systems, compared to their level of concern regarding state-sponsored attacks that would disrupt communications, transportation, and physical infrastructure.
