VMware announced Aug. 22 that it will purchase Carbon Black, a cloud-native endpoint protection software provider, and Pivotal Software, a cloud-native platform provider. The Carbon Black deal is worth $26 per share, or an enterprise value of about $2.1 billion, while the Pivotal Software transaction involves cash and stock valued at $11.71 per share. Both acquisitions are expected to close during the second of half of FY2020.
