The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has tapped Juliane Gallina to serve as the agency’s new deputy director for digital innovation.

In the new role, she will help oversee initiatives and partnerships to enhance the agency’s technology capabilities.

“It is an honor to be asked to lead the Directorate of Digital Innovation. Throughout my career, I’ve reflected that there are three elements to the perfect job: great people, great technology, great mission – and I’ve been delighted to find all three while serving at CIA. We are in the right place at the right time for positive mission impact,” said Gallina.

Most recently, Gallina served as the associate deputy director for digital innovation at the CIA, and previously in the dual-hatted role of chief information officer and director of the information technology enterprise.

Before taking up leadership roles at the CIA, she worked in the private sector as vice president of IBM’s Federal Key Accounts. And she served as a U.S. Navy cryptologic officer before retiring from U.S. Navy Reserves in 2013.

“Juliane brings a wealth of experience from holding multiple leadership positions at the Agency, in the Intelligence Community, and the private sector. Her exceptional breadth of experience, as well as her passion for technology and the Agency workforce make her a natural selection to lead the Directorate of Digital Innovation at this critical time,” said Director William Burns.
