Deloitte’s Center for Government Insights and the Beeck Center for Social Impact + Innovation at Georgetown University on Wednesday released the “Chief Data Officer in Government: A CDO Playbook.” The playbook includes seven chapters and focuses on “key issues and trends affecting public sector data while also examining strategies CDOs could apply.” The playbook specifically addresses how CDOs can turn public data into public good, connect data to residents through storytelling, promote machine learning in government, overcome obstacles to open data-sharing, implement the DATA Act for greater transparency and accessibility, capitalize on the Open Science movement, and manage algorithmic risks. The playbook is the result of several meetings held at the Beeck Center, which brought together leaders in technology and data in the public sector.
