The Department of Defense’s (DoD) Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) with Army Contracting Command has awarded the Indiana Innovation Institute (IN3) an Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) to build an online marketplace to “develop, design, and implement AI capabilities.”
The online AI marketplace, called Tradewind, will allow the DoD to partner with commercial, academic, and industry partners, according to a Feb. 1 press release.
“Tradewind will provide a user-friendly framework for our private sector partners to work more efficiently with the DoD to scale and implement AI for the warfighter and consumers across the military,” said William Roberts, JAIC chief of acquisition.
“We want to learn from this initiative to improve the way DoD works with all types of private sector and academic partners and inject the much-needed speed and agility necessary to scale artificial intelligence and transform the department,” Roberts added.
Tradewind will be available via the DoD’s AI website, AI.mil. The first phase will allow the DoD to connect with “small and non-traditional companies,” creating swift contract actions and helping “to integrate end-users through agile delivery.”
According to Tradewind’s website, the online prototype is expected to be completed this month, with a plan to transition into full production in June 2021.
