The Department of Energy (DoE) has named Brian Epley as its principal deputy chief information officer, a DoE spokesperson confirmed to MeriTalk.

The agency spokesperson said Epley will start in his new role on September 12. Epley comes to DoE after serving at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for over six years as director of the Office of Information Technology Operations.

In his new role, Epley will serve as an advisor to the CIO, work with the CIO to oversee the department’s IT portfolio, and help lead DoE’s digital transformation efforts.

Prior to his time at the EPA, Epley served in a variety of other roles, including founding president of InterSolve IT, program manager at Northrop Grumman, and director of an identity access management program at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

He has also served at the state level as an IT service level director for both the Governor’s Office of Virginia, as well as the Virginia Information Technologies Agency.
