Leading cybersecurity experts will come together on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the Newseum in Washington, D.C., to discuss the changing cyber landscape and ways the private and public sectors can partner to strengthen a proactive cyber defense. MeriTalk’s sixth annual Cyber Security Brainstorm, “Cyber Everywhere: Collaboration, Automation and Integration,” will focus on keeping our nation’s government one step ahead of advancing adversaries.

Keynote speaker Dr. Barry West, senior adviser and senior accountable official for risk management for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), will address how his agency is implementing the new administration’s Cyber Executive Order, and the path forward for cyber programs amid the broader IT modernization push. With his diverse government background, Dr. West will share his insight on the necessary steps for Federal IT and cybersecurity.

The Brainstorm will also feature a host of interactive panels, such as DHS’s Continuous Diagnostics Mitigation (CDM) program and how it has adapted to evolving threats and the new Cyber Executive Order as the program enters its fourth year.

Federal leaders David Nelson, CIO at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Melinda Rogers, CISO at the Department of Justice, and Chris Chilbert, CIO at the Department of Health and Human Services, will participate in the “Transparency Driving Cyber Strategies” panel to address the changes in agencies’ risk management accountability. Panelists will also debate how the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) latest Cybersecurity Framework could affect agencies’ overall cyber strategies.

Additional sessions include a panel on the Internet of Things’ intersection with security and an afternoon luncheon keynote by Dark Reading’s editor in chief Tim Wilson, who will unveil the results of the 2017 Black Hat attendee survey. The survey takes a deep dive into the chief threats faced by today’s security pros, their experience with data breaches, their plans for security spending and staffing, and their opinions on the industry’s hottest cybersecurity issues.

Continuous Professional Education (CPE) credits are available for attendees.
