Facebook Purges Accounts Linked to ‘Inauthentic Behavior’

Citing “coordinated inauthentic behavior,” Facebook announced today that it has purged accounts from Iran, Russia, Macedonia, and Kosovo. A total of 2,632 accounts were removed from the social media platform as well as Facebook-owned Instagram. Of those 2,632 accounts, 1,907 were linked to Russia and 513 were linked to Iran. Facebook said in a statement that most of the Russian accounts were removed for spam. Facebook has been cracking down on accounts based on inauthentic behavior to prevent interference in democratic elections of various countries.
