The Trump administration’s proposal to reorganize the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is due to face tough questioning by the Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on Government Operations at a hearing scheduled for May 21.
The scheduling of the hearing – and the appearance of its expected witness, Margaret Weichert, OPM’s acting director – has been in the works for a few weeks.
Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., whose district includes Fairfax County, Va. – home to many Federal government employees – told MeriTalk earlier this month in no uncertain terms about his objections to the administration’s plan to “dismantle” OPM. Along with a lengthy list of questions about OPM’s proposal, he also asked for information about which parts of the plan the Trump administration believes it could accomplish on its own, and which would need legislative approval.
The May 21 hearing, entitled “Trump’s War on a Merit Based Civil Service,” is scheduled for 2 p.m.
