Debra Steidel Wall has announced her retirement – effective Nov. 30 – as deputy archivist at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) where all public records of the Federal government are stored and maintained.
She has served as the deputy archivist since 2011, and has held a variety of positions with NARA for over 32 years.
“The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has been fortunate to have had Debra as an agency leader,” said Archivist of the United States Dr. Colleen Shogan.
“Her steadfast belief in and advocacy for the agency’s mission has been unparalleled. As NARA’s longest serving Deputy Archivist, Debra leaves an outsized impact on our agency. We are all grateful for her public service,” Shogan said.
During her time at NARA Wall helped lead the creation of “NARA’s first agency-wide archival data model and description standards as well as the Archival Research Catalog (ARC), the predecessor to today’s National Archives Catalog,” the agency said.
