The Department of Defense (DoD) Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) issued a call to industry on Thursday for solutions for contested logistics and sustainment to support and enhance collaboration across combatant commands and international allies.
CDAO will head the project, in partnership with the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, the Joint Fires Network, and the Defense Innovation Unit, according to the release.
The challenge aims to tap into the full potential of the defense industrial base to address the evolving needs of warfighters.
Interested vendors will submit contested logistics and sustainment solutions that could “transform” Global Information Dominance Experiments (GIDE) by “leveraging the entire industrial base to rapidly apply industry solutions to warfighter needs,” and accelerate the application of cutting-edge technologies to real-time military operations.
“We are thrilled about the recent adoption of Open DAGIR, which enables the department to incentivize innovation by driving a competitive environment for data, analytics, and AI platforms, tools, and services,” stated Col Matthew “Nomad” Strohmeyer, GIDE Mission Commander.
The challenge comes nearly three months after the Pentagon unveiled its Open DAGIR approach, which aims to make government data more accessible and make the acquisition process for digital capabilities smoother.
The Open DAGIR program creates a multi-vendor ecosystem designed to facilitate the integration of data platforms, development tools, services, and applications. This initiative ensures that while industry retains intellectual property rights, the government maintains ownership of its data.
According to the DoD, the new Open DAGIR challenge is expected to impact every combatant command, facilitating immediate application of industry solutions to pressing operational challenges through a unified CJADC2 global integration platform.
The iterative feedback mechanism will allow warfighters to engage with solutions in real time while carrying out their missions.
Vendors interested in participating in the challenge have until Sept. 6 to submit their proposals.
