Retired Navy Rear Admiral Mark Montgomery will be named executive director of the Cyberspace Solarium Commission, according to a report from Task and Purpose. Montgomery, who retired in October 2017 after 32 years of service, will lead the commission as it aims to come up with bipartisan policy recommendations for cybersecurity and offensive cyber. Montgomery also worked as policy director on the Senate Armed Services Committee after his retirement. Although Montgomery was censured in November 2018 for his involvement in a Navy bribery scandal, the commission’s co-chairs, Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis., and Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, “spent a lot of time and thought on his candidacy, determining he was the right professional for this important job,” according to a statement from Matthew Felling, King’s communications director.
