The Senate Veterans Affairs Committee held a hearing Wednesday, May 22, on pending legislation – including bills related to electronic health records, and to make the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) website more accessible to disabled veterans – but took no votes on those measures.

The hearing covered a total of 17 pieces of legislation.

The VA Website Accessibility Act of 2019 is sponsored by Sen. Robert Casey, D-Pa., and was introduced with Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan. The bill, which aims to make the VA website accessible to blind veterans, was introduced on March 12, when it was referred to the committee.

The VA Electronic Health Record Advisory Committee Act is meant to “provide guidance to the Secretary and Congress regarding the implementations of and transition to an electronic health record system of the department.” Introduced by Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., and cosponsored by Sens. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., and Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., the bill was introduced April 11.
