The Senate voted today 82-15 to approve a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the Federal government through Nov. 21.  The next stop for the CR bill is the desk of President Trump, who would have to sign it by Sept. 30 – the end of the current fiscal year – to keep the government running.

The House of Representatives version of the bill (H.R. 4378), sponsored by Rep. Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., passed by a vote of 301-123 on Sept. 19. Rep. Lowey said that the bill “will provide families, businesses, and communities with budget certainty while we negotiate long-term funding.”

The CR continues several programs that were set to expire at the end of FY2019, including various health programs, several authorities related to immigration, and the Export-Import Bank of the United States.
