Study: Firewalls Could Have Saved Companies Billions

New research suggests that over the past five years, 33 percent of cybersecurity data breaches could have been prevented with Domain Name System (DNS) firewalls. According to the Global Cyber Alliance, DNS firewalls could have prevented roughly $10 billion in data breach losses during that timeframe. The researchers used Verizon’s Data Breach Investigations Report that showed more than 11,000 confirmed data breaches over the past five years. “This research quantifies the loss avoidance attributable to DNS firewalls,” the report said. “Not only do we find that DNS firewalls are an effective security control, the availability of open or free DNS firewalls make the solution very cost effective.”
