The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has awarded a $1.1 billion contract to Booz Allen Hamilton to assist the department with its Benefits Integration Platform (BIP) initiative.

According to the initial contract opportunity posting on beta.SAM.gov for the BIP, VA is looking to utilize this contract to expand upon its BIP modernization efforts and transition from legacy systems to the BIP platform.

“The contractor shall provide dedicated teams of cross-functional staff to operate, build, maintain, and develop the BIP platform and associated benefits systems with capabilities to streamline systems, improve scalability, increase availability of services, and enable more efficient delivery,” the RFI says. “The contractor shall provide support services for legacy systems and shall support transitioning legacy systems to the BIP Platform and decommissioning legacy systems.”

The five-year contract tasks Booz Allen Hamilton with supporting VA’s benefits integration initiative, which the firm already has experience working with.

The VA has previously invested in a “substantial modernization” of the BIP with the help of the firm, according to a Booz Allen Hamilton case study.

“In partnership with Booz Allen, the VA has spent the last few years augmenting BIP’s technical capabilities with cloud technologies and an Agile framework,” the study says. “This investment has empowered the agency to respond faster and with a high degree of customer service to the Blue Water Navy claims, while simultaneously reducing overhead costs.”
