The U.S. Army announced via Twitter on Tuesday that it appointed a new team leader to spearhead efforts in modernizing the service branch’s tactical network.

Maj. Gen. Anthony Potts will assume duties as the Program Executive Officer for Command, Control, Communications-Tactical – the team responsible for developing, fielding, and managing the Army’s tactical network. He will guide a workforce of more than 1,600 personnel who acquire, field, and support communication networks and devices for information dominance on the battlefield.

Previously, Potts headed the Army’s Program Executive Officer Soldier, a role he assumed in January 2018. In that job, he played a significant part in helping the Army modernize its tactical network including use of devices that track soldiers’ movements on the battlefield to provide unprecedented situational awareness.

Potts will be taking over for Maj. Gen. Robert Collins, who will head to the Pentagon as deputy of acquisition and systems management for the assistant secretary of the Army’s acquisition, logistics and technology unit.

The Army has not said when Potts will begin in the new role.
