Two FISMA (Federal Information Security Modernization Act) report summaries released June 4 highlight weaknesses in cybersecurity procedures at the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA).

The first, an audit of the office’s cybersecurity posture, found “weaknesses in five of the eight domain areas of FISMA that need to be strengthened to ensure EOUSA’s information systems and data are adequately protected.” While not identifying those domain areas, the summary also notes that the audit made 10 recommendations for the office, which EOUSA concurred with.

The second summary focuses on the victim notification system within EOUSA, which keeps victims abreast of the status of their cases for free. That program performed better, with only one out of six control areas identified as having weaknesses. The audit issued two recommendations for the victim notification system, which also EOUSA concurred with.
