The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted today to approve the nomination of Jason Miller for deputy director for management at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), sending the nomination to the full Senate for a confirmation vote.

The committee also voted unanimously to advance the nomination of Deanne Criswell for administrator at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) within the Department of Homeland Security.

“I’m pleased to support both of these highly qualified nominees today,” committee Chairman Gary Peters, D-Mich., said during the committee’s brief meeting. “Mr. Miller has extensive track record of tackling difficult management challenges and driving innovation, both in government and in the private sector. These are both nominees who are ready to hit the ground running, and I hope my colleagues will join me in supporting their nominations.”

Miller’s nomination passed with nearly the full support of the committee – the lone nay came from Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo.

Miller led the agency review team for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative for the Biden-Harris transition team, and served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council in the Obama White House.

“Miss Criswell is a crisis tested leader with over 25 years of emergency management experience at the Federal, state and local levels,” said Sen. Peters. “She understands the challenges facing FEMA and I’m confident she will do a great job leading this critical agency.”
